Food City
The everyday workhorse for a lot of Winchester households — full grocery with butcher, seafood, produce, bakery/deli, pharmacy, and a local-growers program in season.
Everyday shopping is one of the first things you sort out after a move, so here's the honest, on-the-ground read on grocery stores in Winchester, TN — where people actually shop, by area and by type. I'm Jon Smith, a local Realtor with Real Broker, and I put this together for buyers weighing a move to Winchester, out toward Tims Ford Lake, or over in Estill Springs.
When you’re relocating, where you buy groceries is near the top of the practical list — especially in a county-seat town where options concentrate in a few corridors. As the seat of Franklin County, Winchester pulls in everyday retail for the whole area. Two corridors do most of the work: the Cowan Highway side and the Decherd Boulevard stretch on the north edge toward Decherd. For the broader city picture, start with my Winchester real estate guide; this page stays focused on where to shop.

The Franklin County Farmers Market runs seasonally at the county market pavilion on the north side of Winchester — local produce, honey, and plants straight from area growers. Check the county farmers market page for the current schedule. Swiss Pantry in Belvidere, southeast of Winchester and minutes from Tims Ford, is a destination bulk-food store and bakery for specialty items the chains don’t carry.
Winchester sits right at the doorstep of Tims Ford Lake, so its in-town supermarkets — Food City on the Cowan Highway side and Walmart on the Decherd side — double as the everyday stores for much of the lake area. If the lake is the whole reason you’re looking here, see my Tims Ford Lake guide. Estill Springs residents on the west side of the lake typically run into Winchester or up to the Decherd corridor — covered in my Estill Springs guide.
In town you’ll find Food City on the Cowan Highway side, a Walmart Supercenter on the Decherd Boulevard corridor, Food Lion on South College Street, and Bates Foods downtown. Just north in Decherd you’ll also find a Kroger and a Save-A-Lot. Add the seasonal Franklin County Farmers Market and Swiss Pantry in Belvidere, and most households are well covered.
Yes to both. The Walmart Supercenter is right in Winchester on the Decherd Boulevard corridor. The Kroger is technically just over the line in Decherd, but only a few minutes from most of Winchester — a full supermarket with pharmacy and fuel center.
Mostly in Winchester. Food City and the Walmart Supercenter serve as the everyday stores for much of the lake area, and Swiss Pantry in Belvidere adds a specialty option on the southeast/lake side. See my Tims Ford Lake guide for the full lake picture.
